(Hungarian Open)

BASIC INFORMATION
WHERE? in Budapest, HERE
WHO IS ELIGIBLE TO ENTER? As it is stated in the name of the championship, this is an open championship. This means that anyone is eligible to enter, regardless of nationality or standard of play. Well, of course you need to do certain things to compete, e.g. first register yourself, then try to appear at the time and location of the competition. :-)
HOW AND WHEN CAN I ENTER? Click here to get to the entry form. Deadline for entering is 30th June 2006 but if you are definitely intending to com, please let us know well before that date. Entrants so far »
WHAT IS THE SCHEDULE GOING TO BE? Tournament days will be 26-27 August. A preliminary meeting, briefing, Q&A session and the draw for the competition will be held in the evening of 25th August. Without making it precise at this stage, you can assume that the Friday evening session will start around 18h and the main tournament event will take place between 9-18h both on Saturday and Sunday (all times to be read in Hungarian local times which will be GMT+2 in the summer).
WHAT IS THE TOURNAMENT FORMAT? The answer to this question depends a lot on the number of entrants so it will be worked out nearer the event. It is very likely, however, that there will be all-play-all groups on both days, with the Saturday results determining the Sunday groups. You can assume that you will have to play about 7-10 games each day, so it might be worth training the long-term concentration skills. :-) Of course, there will be a longer break on both days too.
WHAT ARE THE TABLE MODE GAME RULES? Click here to read the table tournament rules. Mistake penalties won't be applied.
WILL THERE BE A SEPARATE LOWER/HIGHER RANKED TOURNAMENT? It seems, no, but the groups of 2nd day will depend on the result of 1st day, and will be "rising-star competition"
WILL THERE BE AN ENTRY FEE? Yes. The entry fee for the 2005 championship will be HUF 3000 (about EUR 12) /same like last year/. The fee is due after the entries have closed. You will be informed on possible ways to make the payment.
WHAT DO I GET FOR THE ENTRY FEE? First of all, an exciting competition. Second, a personal gift packet. Unlimited consumption of meals (sandwiches) and drinks will also be included.
WHAT WILL BE THE MAIN PRIZE? It will be announced at the venue. Winners, top placed players and others, based on specific criteria will also receive various prizes.
WHAT ELSE IS THERE TO DO? The main event to have a good chat with others will be the Saturday dinner (optional). Playhouse, other games, puzzles, etc. will also be available nearby between rounds.
WHAT ARE THE POSSIBILITIES FOR ACCOMODATION ? Please specify on the entry form what is your accomodation preference and we will be trying to look after a suitable one. Private accomodation is likely to be easiest in terms of arrangement.
